In commemoration of Africa Day 2021, celebrated on May 25 as a new tradition all over Africa, the office of the President in Seychelles moved a step further and started to officially display the African Union flag at State House at all times alongside the Seychelles National flag.
The Republic of Seychelles has been a member of the African Union since 1976. The AU was established in 2002 as a successor to the Organisation of the African Unity (OAU) which was first founded on May 25, 1963, but the big question is how proud are African States to be counted as one of the Members of the African Union.
Seychelles has only now started to fly the African Union flag alongside its very own National Flag. This was a point that was discussed when the island’s new President Wavel Rankalawan recently met with Seychelles former Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports & Marine and the official photo taken after the meeting shows the AU Flag in the Seychelles President’s Meeting Room at State House.
”Africa today needs to pull all its resources as it prepares for post-covid 19 knowing full well that this pandemic is going nowhere soon. One of the most relevant resources is togetherness as a continent as it is on a State by State basis with its people. Flying the African Union Flag is a welcome move in the right direction for each and every African State”. St. Ange said.
