ABUJA-
Nigeria is preparing to host one of the continent’s most influential fashion and creative industry gatherings as Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 takes centre stage from 2–4 October 2026 in Abuja, bringing together the best of African creativity, innovation, sustainability and global commerce.
With the inspiring theme, “Beyond the Runway: Fashion and Culture at the Heart of the Green & Blue Economy (Going Green 5),” this year’s edition is set to redefine the role of fashion as a catalyst for economic transformation, environmental sustainability, cultural diplomacy and international trade.
Over the years, Nigeria Fashion Week has evolved from a glamorous runway event into a world-class business platform that connects designers with buyers, manufacturers with investors, and local creativity with global markets. The 2026 edition promises to be its biggest yet, attracting fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, investors, policymakers, diplomats, development partners, media organisations and fashion enthusiasts from across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia and the Caribbean.
At the heart of the event is a commitment to positioning Nigeria as Africa’s leading fashion and creative economy hub, while showcasing the country’s immense talent and manufacturing potential to the world.
The three-day event will feature six spectacular runway showcases presenting collections from renowned Nigerian and international designers. These showcases will celebrate African heritage, contemporary fashion trends, innovation, craftsmanship and sustainable design while demonstrating the continent’s growing influence on the global fashion landscape.
Beyond the runway, an expansive fashion and creative industry exhibition will provide opportunities for businesses to showcase textiles, garments, accessories, footwear, beauty products, manufacturing technologies and innovative fashion solutions. The exhibition is expected to facilitate valuable business-to-business engagements, connecting exhibitors directly with buyers, distributors, retailers and investors.
Recognising excellence within the industry, the prestigious Nigeria Fashion Awards will honour outstanding designers, entrepreneurs, organisations and stakeholders whose contributions have significantly advanced Nigeria’s fashion and creative sectors.
Environmental sustainability remains a defining pillar of Nigeria Fashion Week. Through its signature Going Green Collection, designers will unveil collections created from recycled, upcycled and eco-friendly materials, reinforcing the importance of sustainable fashion production and responsible consumption.
The event will also feature the Trees for Nigeria Campaign, a symbolic initiative that will bring together government officials, diplomats, celebrities, students, designers and international delegates to plant trees in support of climate action and environmental conservation. The campaign underscores the event’s commitment to promoting the circular economy and reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry.
One of the most anticipated highlights of Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 is its strategic collaboration with Bizness Group, designed to create pathways for selected Nigerian fashion brands and manufacturers to access Walmart’s global retail ecosystem.
Through this partnership, participating businesses will gain valuable exposure to international retail standards, export readiness programmes, supply chain development and potential access to one of the world’s largest retail marketplaces. The initiative represents a major milestone in expanding Nigeria’s fashion exports, strengthening local manufacturing, creating employment opportunities and increasing foreign exchange earnings.
By bridging the gap between creativity and commerce, the collaboration reinforces the belief that African fashion deserves not only global recognition but also meaningful participation in international value chains.
Nigeria Fashion Week also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader vision of expanding the creative economy as a key driver of economic diversification, entrepreneurship, tourism development and inclusive growth. By empowering women, supporting youth-led enterprises, strengthening small and medium-sized businesses and encouraging innovation, the event continues to demonstrate that fashion is a powerful economic sector capable of transforming lives and contributing significantly to national development.
Speaking on the vision behind this year’s event, Lexy Mojo-Eyes, President of Nigeria Fashion Week, described the platform as a movement that extends far beyond beautiful garments and spectacular runway presentations.
He noted that Nigeria Fashion Week is focused on creating jobs, opening international markets, promoting sustainability, preserving cultural heritage, empowering women and young entrepreneurs, strengthening local manufacturing and firmly positioning Nigeria as Africa’s fashion capital.
According to him, the collaboration with Bizness Group marks an important shift in the evolution of African fashion—from creativity to commerce and from local success to international competitiveness. He expressed confidence that Nigerian designers would increasingly move beyond the runway to become globally recognised brands featured on international retail shelves and digital marketplaces.
As anticipation continues to build, Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 is inviting designers, buyers, retailers, manufacturers, investors, exhibitors, development partners, government agencies, sponsors, media organisations and fashion lovers from around the world to participate in what promises to be one of Africa’s most impactful fashion and creative economy events.
More than a celebration of style, Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 represents a bold vision for Africa’s future—where fashion drives sustainable development, creates employment, attracts investment, strengthens cultural identity and positions Nigeria at the forefront of the global creative economy.
