The leadership of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), led by President Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, recently visited the Director General of the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Aare (Dr.) Abisoye Fagade, at the institute’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
During the meeting, the Director General expressed appreciation for FTAN’s contributions to industry unity and pledged to strengthen collaboration between NIHOTOUR and the private sector. He emphasized that FTAN remains a crucial partner in advancing Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Mr. Onung commended Dr. Fagade for his dynamic leadership and reaffirmed FTAN’s commitment to working closely with government agencies. He highlighted the need for the revival of the Sector Skills Council, which includes several FTAN members and industry experts, stressing its importance for capacity building and industry development.

Addressing concerns over NIHOTOUR’s recent registration directives, Mr. Onung emphasized the necessity of broader stakeholder consultation. He noted that FTAN had initiated discussions on the NIHOTOUR law and was working on a framework to ensure private sector perspectives were integrated into policy decisions.
In response, Dr. Fagade clarified that the registration initiative aimed to enhance data management for the industry’s growth. Acknowledging FTAN’s concerns, he proposed a stakeholder meeting in February to address key issues and outline NIHOTOUR’s strategic roadmap.
The engagement reaffirmed NIHOTOUR’s commitment to working collaboratively with FTAN to implement effective industry policies that drive sustainable development.
