In the quest to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Botswana, Her Excellency Philda Nani Kereng, High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to Nigeria, recently met with Honourable Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the need to synergise in the creative sector for a mutual benefit.
This high-level meeting not only focused on exploring mutually beneficial collaborations between Botswana and Nigeria to build and promote the creative sector, but with a spotlight on the main prominent areas where Nigeria has made global impact such as film production, music and general entertainment, fashion, textiles, visual arts, and cultural tourism.
Their discussions also touched on policy development to creating more enabling environment for creative entrepreneurs in both countries to thrive.
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to explore a wide range of partnerships, including capacity-building initiatives, co-production of films, content branding and marketing strategies.
Leveraging the strengths of both countries, this collaboration aims to foster economic growth, create jobs and enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of Botswana’s creatives, enabling them to compete more effectively in the global market just the way Nigeria has been able to carve a niche positively in the creative aspect globally.
It was further agreed on, that more engagements will focus on developing actionable strategies and frameworks to facilitate this partnership. It is however expected that these plans will not only promote cultural exchange but also position Botswana and Nigeria as major players in the global creative economy, an initiative many experts in the creative economy sector have applauded.
