Project to Honour Cultural Icons, Boost Tourism, and Drive Economic Growth Ahead of National Sports Festival 2025
Ogun State, South West Nigeria, long regarded as Nigeria’s cradle of cultural and intellectual excellence, (The Gateway State) is taking another bold step toward advancing its creative sector. From producing global icons such as Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Professor Wole Soyinka, Chief MKO Abiola, among others too numerous to mention, to preserving natural wonders like iconic Olumo Rock, and becoming the capital of steeze culture in Africa, the state continues to blend its historical legacy with forward-thinking innovation.
Under the leadership of Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Ogun is embarking on a monumental cultural infrastructure project in collaboration with Terra Kulture, Nigeria’s leading cultural and performing arts institution led by Bolanle Austen-Peters.
Governor Abiodun recently announced a strategic partnership with Terra Kulture to establish a world-class Film and Entertainment Village in the state. This transformative project aims to celebrate the state’s rich cultural history while catalyzing tourism, job creation, and youth empowerment through the creative industry.
Set to commence very soon, the initiative goes beyond infrastructure—it is a cultural rebirth. The proposed village will feature state-of-the-art film studios, performance theatres, creative classrooms, and a Hall of Fame to honour legends who have shaped Ogun’s artistic identity.
In addition to the Film Village, the state government is restoring major heritage sites, including:
Olumo Rock, a historic symbol of Egba pride
The home of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, mother of Fela Kuti
The residence of Chief MKO Abiola
The colonial-era house that hosted Queen Elizabeth II
These heritage renewals form part of Ogun’s broader preparation to host over 12,000 visitors during the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in May 2025, turning the event into both an athletic and cultural showcase.
The project represents a key element of the state’s commitment to culture, tourism, and creative industry-led development. By investing in storytelling spaces, heritage tourism, and talent incubation, Ogun is positioning itself as Nigeria’s foremost destination for creative excellence.
“This partnership reflects our vision to invest not only in infrastructure but in inspiration—creating opportunities for learning, innovation, and sustainable wealth creation,” said Governor Abiodun.
Through this collaboration with Terra Kulture, Ogun State is writing a new script for its future—one where creativity meets commerce, and where heritage becomes a launchpad.
