South West Games 2025: Committee Visits Lagos Governor who Re-affirms Commitment to the Initiative

The executive governor of Lagos State, the economic nerve centre of Nigeria, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to regional sports development as he received the South West Games 2025 Committee at his office-Lagos House, Marina, yesterday.

The elated governor received a customized jersey from the President of the committee, Dr. Olanrewaju O. Alfred, in recognition of Lagos State’s pivotal role in advancing sports in Nigeria as its billed the host the games.

Grassroots Sports in Africa: A Foundation for Excellence

Across Africa, grassroots sports play a vital role in youth development, providing a structured platform for discovering and nurturing talent. From community football leagues to regional athletics championships, these initiatives serve as the backbone of national and international sports representation. Countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa have leveraged grassroots competitions to produce world-class athletes who have excelled in the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and other global sporting events.
