Turkish prefabricated construction company Karmod has announced the completion of a 150-home residential project in Nigeria, expanding its construction activities in West Africa through a development combining modular housing technology, infrastructure improvements and solar-supported electricity systems.
The project comprises 150 single-storey homes distributed equally across Ibadan, Kaduna and Calabar, with 50 houses constructed in each city.
According to a company statement published by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, the houses have been completed and prepared for handover.
Karmod General Manager Uğur Kadir said the development was designed to demonstrate how prefabricated construction could help address Nigeria’s housing needs through faster building methods and reduced labour requirements.
Housing Development Across Three Cities
Each residential unit follows a two-bedroom layout with a living room, providing accommodation within a single-storey structure.
The company said its construction teams worked simultaneously across the three Nigerian cities to complete the project.
In addition to the residential buildings, the development includes access roads, supporting infrastructure and electricity systems backed by solar power installations.
Karmod said the integrated approach was intended to provide a practical model for residential development.
Faster Construction Methods
Kadir emphasized the advantages of prefabricated building technology in addressing housing shortages.
According to the company, a three-person construction team can complete the on-site assembly of an individual prefabricated house within two to three days.
The manufacturing process also reduces the amount of construction work required at the building site, potentially lowering labour costs and shortening project completion times.
Kadir identified Nigeria’s growing population and substantial housing requirements as important factors supporting demand for alternative construction methods.
Solar Energy and Infrastructure
The inclusion of solar-supported electricity systems represents another component of the Nigerian project.
According to Karmod, the residential developments incorporate electricity infrastructure designed to support continuous power availability.
The company also reported completing access roads and associated infrastructure works alongside the houses.
However, the announcement did not specify the installed solar generation capacity or provide technical details about the electricity systems.
Turkish Construction Presence in Nigeria
The project reflects the participation of Turkish construction companies in Nigeria’s residential development sector.
Prefabricated housing offers an alternative to conventional construction methods, particularly where shorter installation periods and standardized building designs are priorities.
The latest announcement adds to Karmod’s reported construction activities in the Nigerian market.
The company did not disclose the project’s financial value, identify its contracting partners or provide details of the intended beneficiaries.
It also did not specify whether the completed houses had already been occupied.
Nevertheless, the announcement highlights the potential role of modular construction technologies in expanding housing capacity in African markets.
