The Honorable Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities today officially launched the build-up activities for International Museum Day 2025 (#IMD2025) at the Uganda Media Centre, marking the beginning of a month-long national campaign leading to the main celebration on 18th May 2025 in Kabale Municipality, South Western Uganda.This was made available in a press release made available to the media.
With the theme “Preserving Heritage, Transforming Communities,” IMD2025 aims to spotlight the invaluable role of museums and cultural heritage in knowledge dissemination, cultural preservation, and as engines of socio-economic development. The launch event is expected to draw stakeholders from across the country and beyond, including government officials, private sector partners, academia, and cultural practitioners.
His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will preside over the grand commemoration in Kabale, joined by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, ministry officials, local government leaders, diplomatic corps representatives, and community stakeholders.
Leading up to the main event, a series of nationwide activities have been lined up to engage the public and raise awareness about the significance of museums, these include:
- Cultural tours to regional and private museums
- A National Cultural Museums Conference
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drives
- Educational competitions including school quizzes, debates, and poetry contests
- A tertiary institution symposium
- A sports gala and bull roasting festivities
- Exhibitions highlighting cultural heritage
- Specialized Tour Guides Training in Cultural Tourism Management
The IMD2025 celebration is a collaborative effort, bringing together institutions like Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Cultural Forum, Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda, Uganda Tour Guides Association, and media partners, among others.
The Ministry extends a warm welcome to all Ugandans, development partners, and cultural enthusiasts to participate in this year’s celebrations and embrace the transformative power of cultural heritage.
