The African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) have convened a Joint Mission Support Planning Modalities Validation Workshop from 13 to 17 October 2025 at the Eastern Africa Standby Force Logistics Base, Addis Ababa.
This milestone event marks a major step in advancing the implementation of the AU-UN joint roadmap for operationalising UN Security Council Resolution 2719, which was endorsed in October 2024 by the AU Chairperson and the UN Secretary-General.
The roadmap outlines four key workstreams—joint planning, decision-making and reporting; mission support; financing and budgeting; and compliance and protection of civilians—designed to enhance coordination and technical-level collaboration between both institutions.
Bringing together AU and UN planners, the workshop aims to strengthen the AU-UN partnership in peace operations, with an expected outcome of developing a shared mission support planning framework to guide future AU-led mission transitions and new deployments under UNSCR 2719 when authorised.
