The Mayor of Zanzibar , Hon. Mahmoud Musa Muhammed has urged financial experts to adopt proactive strategies to safeguard lives in the event of another pandemic.
He said this while making his remarks at a one-day conference for Senior Officials and Experts on the Financial Performance Assessment Report Meeting held in Dar es Salaam recently.The mayor highlighted the critical need for financial readiness in anticipation of potential health crises similar to the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that lessons from the past must guide future planning to ensure that both lives and livelihoods are protected during such emergencies. “We must be financially prepared to respond swiftly to any future pandemics to mitigate their impact and save lives,” he advised.
The conference brought together top financial experts and senior officials in Tanzania to evaluate the country’s financial performance and resilience. The discussions focused on strengthening fiscal policies and contingency planning to better withstand future disruptions.The mayor’s remarks served as a timely reminder of the importance of integrating financial preparedness into long-term development plans, as experts echoed the call for comprehensive strategies to fortify the region’s health and financial sectors.
