His Highness Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has called for greater cooperation among Asian nations to address shared challenges and transform the continent’s economic potential into tangible development gains.

The Qatari leader made the remarks in a statement published on his official X account during the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Thursday.

Sheikh Tamim welcomed the convening of the summit and expressed hope that its outcomes would contribute to strengthening security across Asia and promoting prosperity for its people.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Amir emphasized that the common interests and challenges facing Asian countries require closer coordination and cooperation.

He also stressed the importance of translating the continent’s considerable resources and opportunities into practical development achievements that benefit its populations.

The summit, hosted at the Heydar Aliyev Center at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, brought together heads of state and government, senior officials and representatives of regional and international organizations.

Qatar’s delegation included Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi.

The gathering provided a platform for participating countries to discuss regional cooperation and confidence-building measures amid evolving security and economic challenges.

The Amir’s statement highlighted Qatar’s support for multilateral cooperation and its emphasis on linking regional stability with economic development.

Although the summit focused on Asia, the remarks reflect Doha’s broader diplomatic emphasis on cooperation, development and dialogue in international relations.
