The partnership is expected to create new channels for connecting Oromia with tourism businesses, investors, tour operators, destination management organisations, governments and other stakeholders across Africa and international markets.
Oromia: A Destination of Nature , Culture and Opportunity
Oromia is one of Ethiopia’s most diverse tourism destinations, offering an extraordinary combination of natural landscapes, wildlife, cultural heritage, adventure and living traditions.
Through the official Visit Oromia platform, the destination showcases attractions ranging from the Bale Mountains, Awash National Park and Abijata-Shalla National Park to Wanchi-Dandi, Dendi Crater Lake, Babile Elephant Sanctuary, Sof Omar Cave and historic cultural sites such as Abba Jifar Palace.
Beyond its natural attractions, Oromia’s tourism proposition is deeply rooted in its people, traditions, festivals, food, music, crafts, history and community-based experiences.
The Oromia Tourism Bureau describes its approach as one focused on protecting biodiversity and cultural heritage, promoting authentic experiences and creating economic opportunities within tourism communities.
With its proximity to Addis Ababa, extensive landscapes and rich cultural and natural assets, Oromia has significant potential for leisure tourism, eco-tourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism, heritage tourism, MICE, community-based tourism and investment-led destination development.
The new partnership with AITEC World is therefore expected to contribute to greater international visibility for Oromia while opening new opportunities for tourism enterprises and communities across the region.
AITEC World: Linking Africa to the World and the World to Africa
The Africa International Tourism and Economic Council (AITEC World) is an international tourism and economic development organisation dedicated to strengthening the relationship between Africa and the global economy through tourism, trade, investment, culture, innovation and strategic partnerships.
AITEC World seeks to promote sustainable tourism and economic growth through partnerships, innovative solutions and inclusive development, while helping to position Africa as a stronger participant in the global tourism economy. Its core areas include tourism development, economic development, culture and heritage, research and innovation, investment promotion, capacity building, economic partnerships and policy advocacy.
The organisation’s vision is to become a leading international platform for promoting sustainable tourism and economic growth between Africa and the global community, while its mission focuses on creating economic opportunities, strengthening tourism development and enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Africa and the rest of the world.
AITEC World operates around the philosophy of “Linking Africa to the World and the World to Africa,” using tourism as a bridge for investment, trade, cultural exchange, connectivity and economic cooperation.
The organisation also convenes the Africa Tourism Dialogue (ATD), bringing together policymakers, tourism leaders, investors, private-sector stakeholders and international partners to address opportunities and challenges affecting Africa’s tourism and economic development.
A Strategic Gateway for Oromia
The new Oromia–AITEC World partnership comes at a time when African destinations are increasingly seeking to transform tourism from a leisure activity into a major instrument for investment attraction, employment creation, community development, cultural diplomacy and sustainable economic growth.
For Oromia, the collaboration offers an opportunity to take its rich tourism assets beyond traditional destination promotion and connect them with international markets, investors, travel businesses and strategic partners.
For AITEC World, the partnership strengthens its growing network of destination and institutional partners and reinforces its commitment to supporting African destinations in unlocking the economic value of tourism.
Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Amb. Kazeem Balogun emphasised the importance of building practical partnerships that translate Africa’s tourism resources into greater economic opportunities, stronger international connections and increased visibility for destinations.
On her part, Mrs. Heldiana Suleyman expressed her organisation’s unflinching commitment to cementing the partnership with enthusiasm.
The partnership is expected to facilitate joint promotional campaigns, tourism business exchanges, investment engagement, participation in international tourism platforms, cultural initiatives and the development of multi-destination tourism routes connecting Oromia with other African and international destinations.
A New Chapter for Oromia Tourism
The signing of the MoU represents more than an institutional agreement. It is a commitment to building stronger bridges between Oromia’s tourism potential and the global tourism marketplace.
As the two organisations begin implementing the partnership, the collaboration is positioned to create new opportunities for tourism businesses, investors, communities, cultural practitioners, tour operators and destination stakeholders.
With its exceptional natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and growing tourism ambitions, Oromia is poised to tell its story to a much wider global audience.
The partnership with AITEC World opens a new chapter, focused on stronger tourism connections, increased investment, knowledge exchange, international visibility and shared economic opportunities.
