Two strategic agreement signed to strengthen international and continental collaboration
in Africa’s MICE industry
The Africa MICE ecosystem has adopted the Mombasa MICE Declaration 2026, an industry framework
setting out six strategic pillars for advancing the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions
(MICE) industry across Africa. The declaration was adopted at the conclusion of the ninth Africa MICE
Summit & Awards, held from 1–2 October 2026 at the Tembo International Convention Centre in
Mombasa, Kenya.
Convened by the Africa MICE Hub and its partners, the Summit brought together policymakers, global
MICE industry leaders, convention bureaux, destinations, venues, hosted buyers, investors, innovators, sustainability advocates, young professionals and media representatives from more than 20 countries and markets.The gathering provided a platform for policy dialogue, practical learning, youth
mentorship, international showcases and matched networking.
The Mombasa MICE Declaration 2026 provides a shared roadmap for coordinated action and is built
around five strategic pillars:
Investment and Infrastructure and intra-africa trade
Destination Competitiveness; people, Talent and Professionalism; lnnovation, Technology and Sustainability Global Market Access.
Inter and Intra Africa Collaboration:
Speaking during the Summit, the convener of the Africa MICE Summit & Awards, Kezy Mukiri, said:
“The Mombasa MICE Declaration 2026 moves our industry from conversation to coordinated action.
Its five pillars reflect the priorities that will determine Africa’s competitiveness in the global MICE
economy, from infrastructure and investment to talent, innovation, sustainability and market access.
The Declaration gives the ecosystem a shared direction and a basis for partnerships that can deliver
measurable progress.”
The Summit also announced two strategic partnership between the Africa MICE Summit and the
International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), and between the Africa MICE Summit and
Incentives, Business Travel and Meetings (IBTM) Americas
ICCA officially becomes the Knowledge Partner of the Africa MICE Summit, strengthening access to
industry insights, expertise and learning opportunities for Africa’s business events community.
Our collaboration dialogue with IBTM Americas will focus on connecting Africa’s MICE ecosystem with
buyers and industry networks across the Americas, creating opportunities for destination visibility,
knowledge exchange and business development.
The Africa MICE Summit & Awards 2026 has demonstrated the value of bringing the MICE ecosystem together around a common agenda.
The Mombasa MICE Declaration 2026, the signed partnerships and
the announcement of Zambia as the 2027 host destination collectively mark an important step towards a more connected, competitive, sustainable and globally engaged African MICE industry.
The event culminated with the Africa MICE Awards, celebrating excellence, innovation and
leadership in Africa’s MICE industry.
