A Groundbreaking Initiative to Honor Black American Achievements and Strengthen Pan-African Ties
In a groundbreaking celebration of unity, history, and shared heritage, the inaugural “Celebrate Black Excellence” event will officially launch during Black History Month, coinciding with the African Union Summit and the Council Meeting of Global Black Centre. This powerful initiative aims to honor Black American trailblazers while fostering deeper connections between Africa and the African diaspora.
The event is being organized by Dr. Ife Akinsheye Damon, Dr. Merawi Goshu and host of others as well as a coalition of influential institutions on both sides of the Atlantic. From Addis Ababa side, are: the Institution of Foreign Affairs, The Ethiopian Diaspora Association, New Horizons for Pan Africanism, and African Eagle Multi Media. Their U.S. counterparts, include the Community-Based Education Movement, Knowledge First Academy and Career Institute, and African Missions Empowering Network, all partnering to make this vision a reality.
A Celebration of Legacy and Unity
The primary purpose of “Celebrate Black Excellence” is to reconnect Black Americans with their African roots and remind them of their extended family—a continent of over 1.4 billion Africans who love, support, and deeply miss them. This initiative carries a heartfelt message: Africa is home, and its people welcome their brothers and sisters in the diaspora with open arms.
By showcasing the remarkable achievements of Black American trailblazers, the event aims to inspire African youth and encourage collaboration across various fields such as medicine, journalism, sports, engineering, education, entertainment, and business.
Inspiring the Next Generation
This year’s celebration will spotlight Black American leaders who have broken barriers and set new standards in their respective industries. By telling their stories, the organizers hope to inspire African youth to dream bigger and see themselves as part of a global Black community that shares a rich and vibrant heritage.
In addition to honoring achievements, “Celebrate Black Excellence” seeks to build lasting relationships between African and African American communities, promoting cross-cultural exchanges and opportunities for growth.
A Yearly Tradition of Connection and Celebration
The event’s organizers envision “Celebrate Black Excellence” as an annual celebration held every February, creating a space for shared experiences and mutual growth. Aligning with the African Union Summit ensures that the message of unity reaches leaders and changemakers from across the continent and beyond.
This inaugural event marks the beginning of a new chapter in Africa-diaspora relations—one rooted in pride, unity, and the shared goal of building a stronger, more connected Pan-African community. Black excellence is a global story, and this event aims to tell it in its full glory.
