In a significant stride toward transforming Lagos into a global economic and transportation hub, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the internationally acclaimed construction giant, Summa Group. The MoU marks the official commencement of the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe International Airport project, a key infrastructure development that promises to redefine air travel in Nigeria.
The Lekki-Epe International Airport is poised to improve connectivity within Lagos and beyond, catering to the growing travel demands of one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities. Strategically located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone corridor, the airport will serve as a gateway for international and regional travelers, boosting commerce, tourism, and global investments.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized the transformative impact the project will have on the state’s economy and social development. “This groundbreaking initiative is an essential part of our vision to improve connectivity in Lagos, stimulate economic growth, and draw in global investments. The Lekki-Epe International Airport will facilitate travel and create new opportunities for businesses and residents throughout the state,” he stated.
The partnership with Summa Group, renowned for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects across the globe, reflects the government’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure for Lagosians. Once completed, the airport is expected to enhance ease of doing business, attract foreign direct investments, and create thousands of jobs, contributing significantly to the state’s economic prosperity.
The Lekki-Epe International Airport project aligns with the Lagos State Government’s ambitious 30-year Development Plan, which envisions a more connected, prosperous, and resilient Lagos. The airport will complement other infrastructural projects within the Lekki corridor, including the Deep Sea Port and the Lagos Free Trade Zone, positioning Lagos as a preferred investment destination in Africa.
